Arrival description

Coming from the east | A1

The fastest way in the region Dachstein Krippenstein in the UNESCO World Heritage region Salzkammergut via Westautobahn A1 (Wien-Salzburg), exit "Regau" and continue via Gmunden, Bad Ischl, Bad Goisern, Hallstatt to Obertraun.

  • Travel time from Gmunden approx. 1 hour and 20 minutes

Coming from the north / west | B158/A145

The B158 along the Fuschlsee and Wolfgangsee to Bad Ischl. Then continue on the B145 towards Bad Ischl and Hallstatt to Obertraun.

  • Travel time from Salzburg approx. 1 hour 25 minutes

Coming from the south | A10

Tauernautobahn A10 (from the direction of Graz, Carinthia, Italy, Slovenia), to the “Eben” exit and continue B166 via Russbach and Hallstatt to Obertraun.

  • Travel time from Eben approx. 1 hour

Coming from the south | B145 (Koppenpass)

Coming from Styria (Bad Aussee, Altaussee, Bad Mitterndorf, Grundlsee), take the B145 and Koppenstraße to Hallstättersee Landesstraße in Obertraun and then continue to the valley station of the Dachstein Krippenstein cable cars.

  • Travel time from Altausse approx. 20 min.

Note: Koppenpass closed in winter depending on snow conditions! Alternative journey via B145 and Romantikstraße.

Arrival by bus

By OÖVV bus line No. 542 + 543 you travel comfortable from Bad Ischl, Hallstatt, Gosau to Obertraun / valley station of the Dachstein Krippenstein cable cars.

The bus stop "Obertraun Dachsteinseilbahn" is located in front of the entrance area of the valley station of the Dachstein Krippenstein cable cars.

Arrival by train

By train you will travel comfortably to Obertraun - Dachstein Krippenstein in the Salzkammergut.

Train stop "Obertraun Dachsteinhöhlen Bahnhof" + continue by bus line no 542 to:

  • Dachstein Giant Ice Cave, Mammut Cave, 

  • 5fingers, Dachstein shark, World Heritag spiral

Train stop "Obertraun Koppenbrüllerhöhle Bahnhst.":  

  • Koppenbrüller Cave

The train stop 'Koppenbrüllerhöhle' is only a few minutes' walk from the trail to Koppenbrüller Cave.
