Beneath the surface of the Dachstein, a whole world of ice and stone awaits you.

On this page, you’ll find all the information regarding to the opening times for the Dachstein Caves in the summer: Dachstein Giant Ice cave, Mammut cave und Koppenbrüller cave – clearly organized by cave, time period, and accessibility.

The caves are part of the underground Dachstein Krippenstein Adventure World and are the perfect way to round out your day on the mountain. Even in bad weather, they offer a special experience and a welcome change of pace from your weekend or vacation plans.

  • Tour duration: approx. 50 minutes

  • Access: cable car Section 1

  • On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, the facility is open one hour longer in the afternoon (through October 24, 2026)

  • We recommend planning your trip up the mountain for the last tour at least 30 minutes in advance!

Please note:

  • Tour duration: approx. 50 minutes

  • Access: valley, walking path

  • Guided tours are held regularly at the Koppenbrüller Cave

  • Please sign up for a guided tour at the ticket office / cave entrance.

Good to know:

  • Caves can only be visited with you experienced cave guides.

  • Please wear a protective mask during your guided cave tour.

  • Registration for guided tours:

    • Guided tour Mammut & Giant Ice cave: registration Schönbergalm

    • Guided tour  Koppenbrüller cave: Registration at the Koppenbrüller cave in the valley

  • Robust shoes and warm clothes! The caves have a temperature of -2 ° C to +6 ° C

  • Tip: Free Audioguide app "Hearonymus" for the smartphone (in 7 languages)

PLEASE NOTE! Registration for the cave tour is required for individuals and groups! Determining of the tour time is only possible for special tours with a single guide surcharge.

Given the Alpine location of the Dachstein, one or more attractions may have to be closed for operational reasons or due to the poor weather conditions e.g. snowfall

These closures are to secure your own personal safety.
