The mountain and cave world at Dachstein Krippenstein are daily open in the summer season from 01.05.2024 until 03.11.2024. First ascent at 8:40 am. 

Operating times summer 2024:

  • 01.05. - 03.11.2024: cable car section 1
    + Mammut & Giant Ice Cave

  • 09.05. - 03.11.2024: cable car section 2

  • 08.06. - 03.11.2024: cable car section 3

  • 20.07. - 29.09.2024: Koppenbrüller Cave

*Cable car section 2 to Krippenstein and 5fingers, Dachstein shark etc.

Cable car: last ascent

First ascent 8:40 am!

*Last cable car ascent from the valley station to get there and back in time for the last cave tour and the 5fingers viewing platform. Please note! You need 2 hours for the visit of 5fingers viewing platform incl. ascent & descent by cable car (2 sections). **Last ascent to take part at one guide cave tour (Mammut OR Giant ICE CAVE).

Cable cars run continuously, every 15 minutes | *from 09.05. to 28.06.2024 + 09.09. to 26.10.2024 always on Saturdays, Sundays & public holidays 1 hour longer open.

» to Gjaid Alm

*Last cable car ascent from the valley station to get to the Lodge and Gjaid Alm accommodation in time. For overnight guests only!

Bad weather tip!

When the sun makes a break, then visit the charming underworld of ice and rock. The Dachstein Krippenstein cable cars  and Dachstein world of caves are open daily - even at bad weather!

Note: Cave visit!

  • Caves can only be visited with you experienced cave guides.

  • Please wear a protective mask during your guided cave tour.

  • Registration for guided tours:
    > Guided tour Mammut & Giant Ice Cave: registration Schönbergalm
    > Guided tour  Koppenbrüller cave: Registration at the Koppenbrüller cave in the valley

  • Robust shoes and warm clothes! The caves have a temperature of -2 ° C to +6 ° C

  • Tip: Free Audioguide app "Hearonymus" for the smartphone (in 7 languages)

PLEASE NOTE! Registration for the cave tour is required for individuals and groups! Determining of the tour time is only possible for special tours with a single guide surcharge.

Given the Alpine location of the Dachstein, one or more attractions may have to be closed for operational reasons or due to the poor weather conditions e.g. snowfall
