The dizzying heights of Salzkammergut:

Seewand fixed rope course.

The Seewand fixed rope course is not just aimed at expert climbers seeking challenging climbs! If you are less experienced, we recommend a climbing guide from Outdoor Leadership!

The route starts at the Kessel bathing point car parking between Hallstatt and Obertraun. The climb to the via ferrata runs via the Hirschaualm (approx. 30 mins). You should plan around 4-5 hours to complete the Seewand climb.

During the climb, you can enjoy panoramic views of Hallstatt and the Inner Salzkammergut area. The fixed rope course climb takes place on the Dachstein mountain plateau where you reach the Gjaidalm after around 30 minutes via a beautiful Alpine trail with magnificent Dachstein views. From here, you can take the Dachstein-Krippenstein cable car down into the valley. Completing the descent on foot takes an additional 2 hours (either via the ski descent or from Schafeck/Hanzingerhütte over the Winkler Berg mountain).

Detailed information:
Largest fixed rope course in the Alps, difficulty rating D - E (based on scale A - E), altitude difference from lake parking area to the Gjaidalm approx. 1,100 Meter, duration: 6 to 9 hours, depending on fitness level!

The Seewand fixed rope course has been built by the Obertraun tourist board in collaboration with Heli Putz/Outdoor Leadership.
